Teacher Only Day - Reading

This was a great course to look at what you have been doing or forgot to incorporate into your class.  

Here are a few images of ideas that really resonated with me and remind me of some good ideas.

Great idea to develop word knowledge.

I like this simple idea about the reading process.

Reminder about all the different comprehension strategies. Some need to be left for when they are older.

You need to be able to have a balanced reading program.  The idea of I do, We do and You do is a great and a simple way of looking at it.

These prompts would be great to support the discussion around what the students have been reading to help support them to develop the skills required to lead a group discussion and build on each others ideas around the reading topic.

Really like shared reading and how it opens up students to a wide rang of texts that they wouldn't read.  I also like how this is the place to teach strategies and when they come to the guided reading that is where they have the chance to practise them.

These last 2 ideas are around independent activities for after reading.  It is important to allow students to return to the text to help them deepen their ideas.
